Winter 2018/2019
Santa’s arrival in Presque Isle is different than most places. Instead of arriving on a sleigh pulled by 8 reindeer, he comes on the Sno Bunnies trail groomer.
Presque Isle’s Christmas celebration is called Sleigh Rides, Santa, and S’Mores. People from surrounding communities also come. There is sledding and ice skating, a big bonfire to keep people warm and for the S’Mores, hot dogs and Brats. The Lionesses provide holiday cookies and Santa comes for a visit.
The Lion’s Club donated money to add light poles for the ice skating and sledding areas. This was the first time the lights had been on so it was very exciting for the kids. So many people came that we ran out of parking space which isn’t normally a problem here.
The horse drawn sleigh ride is very peaceful. About all you hear is the jingle of the horses’ harnesses and the klip klop of their feet.
The snowmobile bridge looked very festive with Christmas lights.
The small waterfall in the middle of downtown Presque Isle is very pretty during the winter.
Hiking during the winter is very peaceful. All you hear is the crunch of the snow under your boots. We’ve recently started snowshoeing so we can get to some places we otherwise couldn’t.
Mother Nature creates her own version of Christmas trees. This one was along the upper part of Interstate Falls.
After a fresh snow, all signs of mankind are covered over and everything looks pristine and fresh. This same scene could have existed 1000’s of years ago.
Tufts of snow on the rocks look like they’re floating above the water.
Winter waterfalls are very different from their summer brethren. This is the upper part of Interstate Falls.
Gabbro Falls was mostly frozen but the ice was very pretty.
This is Conglomerate Falls.
On our way home from Covington one afternoon there was an unbelievable sunset. The cloud was very long but very straight and it lined up perfectly with the sun.
This handsome buck posed right outside our living room window one evening.
On to the new challenges of 2019!
