Winter is a very different season because it’s mostly black and white, but the scenery is no less spectacular. The snow is light and fluffy and it often hangs upside down with no support under it. I'm no physics expert but it would seem like this is impossible. Obviously it's not.

This "Christmas deer" picture was taken through the wreath hanging on our front door.

Gooch’s A1 Bar is on highway M in Boulder Junction. Pretty much every inch of Gooch’s walls are covered with fish or mounted animals. The deer looked very festive with their Christmas collars.

We went to Presque Isle's Old Fashioned Christmas celebration at Pipke Park. It was very nice. We helped the kids light the Chinese lanterns.

The kids were so excited. They were all pointing to the sky and saying that one's mine!

horses.jpg

These are the draft horses that pulled the sleigh around the lake. Their names are Bill and John. They were very mellow with all the kids running around, people taking pictures of them, and snowmobiles riding by. The ride around the lake was very quiet and peaceful.

The horse trailer got stuck in the snow and they had to get a tow truck to pull it out.

A winter sunset seen from the public boat launch on Presque Isle Lake.

This shot was taken from the top of a hill off Crab Lake road.

Looking out our living room window is like having our own nature channel. There is always some type of wildlife. This fox is about 20' from our living room window.

train2.jpg

In mid-December we went to the Model Train Club’s holiday display. Boy did that bring back childhood memories!

ice castle2.jpg

This ice castle in Eagle River is a fund raiser for the local fire department. They cut 2100 ice blocks from a nearby lake and hauled them downtown. It took them 5 days to build. The castle is 30 feet tall, 25 feet long, and 30 feet wide. Last year it only lasted 2 weeks. There was a beautiful clear blue sky the day we were there.

SNOWMY.jpg

The Stormy Kromer hat was invented for George “Stormy” Kromer who was a railroad engineer whose hat kept blowing off. Necessity being the mother of invention, George’s wife Ida came up with the idea of a hat that ties under your chin.

This 30-foot-tall “Snowmy” Kromer snow man is located in front of Minoqua’s chamber of commerce. The size 96 hat was made by the company that makes the Stormy Kromer hats. It was made specifically for this snow man and that’s when “Snowmy” was born. In 2015 Snowmy’s picture was posted on Face Book and it went viral and made national news. People from as far away as Nova Scotia, Singapore, and Australia called to get more information about him.

stream7.jpg

A pretty little stream, meandering through the woods on highway W. You can see all the footprints from animals that came for a drink.

This pastor at a church in Mercer, certainly has excellent insight into how everyone is feeling by early March.
