SPRING 2021
Ah SPRING! Every year when it seems like winter will never end, at last a magical day arrives that tells you that winter’s icy grip is finally loosening, and spring is coming. Hope is renewed.
The difficulties in the world gave us a tremendous urge to garden this spring. Seeing things growing, and the vibrant colors, made the world seem much better.
We started getting temps in the 60’s and 70’s by late March and we just couldn’t wait to start planting. Judging by the throngs of people at the garden stores, we weren’t the only ones with this need.
Spring also means the birds are back.
Barb loves solar lights, so we have quite a collection, ranging from hummingbirds, to butterflies, to flying pigs. It’s magical to sit on our porch at night and watch them lit up. Seems like a fairy kingdom.
Our youngest son, David decided that we needed a lawn goose. We’ve never had a lawn goose before, but they really are fun. We named her Gertrude. They come with seasonal outfits. This is her spring garden gnome ensemble.
When we lived up north, Gilmore really missed having his own yard. He’ll just sit in the grass surveying his empire and bark and carry on any time something dares to invade his territory.
Our older son, Tom has been trying to teach me about virtual reality. This one was a fishing game and when I pulled on the line the fish came flying into the boat.
Now that spring is here and things have started re-opening, we’ve resumed exploring the area. Our image of Indiana was mostly farm fields. Much to our surprise there are waterfalls. This one is Cataract Falls in Owen County. Many of the parks have entrance fees, so we invested in a season pass that covers all the parks. We are now officially “Golden Hoosiers”.
This one is McCormick’s Creek Canyon.
After a long day of waterfalling, how could I possibly resist trying the “Best Bar B Q in Indiana”.
It is pretty darn tasty.
I thought I’d end with the above words of wisdom from an insurance company in southern Indiana.
It’s been a horrible last year, the bad news just kept coming and at times it felt overwhelming, but we finally seem to be coming out of it. I hope all of you were able to get through this difficult time with minimal problems. I know when we got our second vaccine it felt like we’d been given a get out of jail free card.
